Research usage
Cagrilintide is a long-acting analogue of amylin, a peptide co-secreted with insulin. In animal research it has been studied for obesity and type 2 diabetes, as well as for liver and cardiovascular endpoints. Much research focuses on combining cagrilintide with semaglutide, where the two appear to act synergistically on appetite regulation and body weight.
In research models the combination of cagrilintide and semaglutide (often referred to as CagriSema) produced more robust and durable weight-loss effects than either agent alone. Preclinical studies suggest promising metabolic potential, though human clinical data remain limited and ongoing.
As an amylin analogue, the most commonly reported research observations are gastrointestinal, including nausea, and are generally dose-dependent. Clinical safety characterization is still emerging and further research is required to define its profile.
